Preliminary Task

I know this may be a bit overdue in the blog posting but here is my Preliminary Task.

I have made sure that i completed all objectives when making this task, which wee:

-Match-On-Action
- 180 Degree Rule
- Shot reverse shot

I found this task to be quite easy and wasn't too hard to do since when the teacher announced the task i already had a firm vision of what i wanted in my short film. Because of this continuity task i feel as though it helped me when i was making my opening sequence as it was a perfect way to learn how to use the cameras and eiting software, while also learning about different filming techniques.Without it i am certain that my task would have been alot harder and i would not of been as pleased as i am with the final product.

EL FINITO

I... am finished.

Music:
For the muic in this sequence i didn't use music... per say, i used more just sound effects created within Garageband, namely the big gong sound and also the faint deep tone at the start while the titles are rolling. This helped create atmosphere and is a usual convention of thrillers as it creates suspense and a happy and cheerful tune wouldnt do that, would it?

Transitions:
The only transitions i used within my sequence were fades and cuts, as these are conventional in Thrillers, as they connote continuity and progression within the movie.

Effects:
The two effects i used within the opening sequence were brightnes and contrast, so i could achieve the flashing white then progressing to a fade to black type effect, as this connotes fear and haste. The other effect i used was the echo on the scream at the end, this was not fully the desired effect i had hoped for but it works with the movie, since i asked a few people around my class if they thought it was appropriate for this genre and they all agreed with me. The echo trailing of shows how the character is trapped within some sort of building and springs several enigma codes into your mind, such as "Why is she screaming? "Why is she inside?" "What is he doing to her?" which is the desired effect for the echo.

And now, a brief explanation on why i have not used the dialogue of 'You're Special' and this is because when the camera had filmed it, something had happened and for some reason when i played it back, the sound was not in sync with the video, thus making it useless, so instead i used another shot of the characters face, which is used to create more suspense and enigma codes.

And now, to end my blog i will give you a quote from the famous director, Stanley Kubrick:

"A film is - or should be - more like music than fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, whats behind the emotions, the meaning, all that comes later."

Stay classy san diego.

Editing V1

Right. Onto editing!

Im currently at the stage where i know clearly what i am going to be doing for my editing and i have also done at least half of the editing, which is very good progress.

Currently i am nearing the stage of completion for my editing and will definitely have it finished by the due date which is the monday after next which is the 26th. But since i will not have any time on that monday i will be making sure that i finish all editing by the friday before, which will be the 23rd of January.

I have decided to stick the the storyboard i created which i will be uploading to this blog as an animatic very shortly, i just need to make it into a quick film and upload it with the help of a teacher.

I am currently pleased with what has come from my editing even though i wasn't happy with the filming i had done that day.

Camera Trouble

With the camera I used, my parents camera, unfortunately it was filming onto a tape, and when i decided to put the video onto my computer at home to transfer it onto a USB pen, i found that the movie was a .WMV file, which is only compatible with Windows/Microsoft and not Apple Mac's. So i found a program that would let me convert the file into an AVI file, which is compatible.

But alas, when i got into Media first thing on a wednesday morning, i put my usb into the mac and found out that my computer had used a codec which the school hadn't got (a codec helps translate the video file and play it) to transform it into an AVI file.

So i went onto an old windows computer in the next room and luckily i had put the WMV file on my pen as-well, as i found i cold convert the file with the windows computer.

As i am typing it is converting and is taking its time...

When it is done i will start my editing and start getting this film into its finishing stages!

Filming - 2nd Attempt

And we are DONE!

Completed filming yesterday, and instead of using my own house i used a friends house who lived closer to everyone who was acting, so it was easier, plus it was big and scary!

For the cast i used:
Dennis - Kriss Eggleston
Amy - Harriet Ashton
Dead People -
+George Potter
+Dan Richie
+Charlie W-H
+James
+Sally

And i have now uploaded it onto a USB stick and is ready for editing.

Filming ERROR

Unfortunately i have jut been told that i cannot be in my own film, after filming all my movie, so i have to do it again over the christmas holiday.

For this i will have to make several differences, as i first filmed with me being the main character. I have already had some thoughts on who the main character will be and i have thought about where i will set it, as i thought my house was not scary enough for the average thriller film, so i have thought about filming in a friends house, who lives nearer to the school.

This is a huge setback and i will try to recover over the christmas holidays.
